POINT PLEASANT — Some businesses in downtown Point Pleasant may qualify to receive grant funds to spruce up their storefronts.
Main Street Point Pleasant is offering a West Virginia Facade Grant for Community Development to downtown businesses located along Main Street between Third and Sixth Streets.
Charles Humphreys, director of Main Street Point Pleasant, said the organization has already received the $45,000 grant and funds are ready to be released. He added $35,000 will be available for the facade work and $10,000 is being set aside for visual improvements to the Riverfront Park.
Business owners who are approved for the grant can use the funds for painting, awnings and general aesthetic improvements to the facade of their buildings/businesses. However, the grant funds do not cover replacement of windows or doors. Those interested in receiving these grant funds should apply within the next two weeks by stopping by to see Humphreys at his office on Main Street to discuss their plans for facade improvement, or calling him at 304-675-3844.
Humphreys said Main Street Point Pleasant has been working for over 22 years to accomplish many goals, including making downtown more attractive to visitors which this grant will help accomplish. He said programs like the West Virginia Facade Grant for Community Development will help revitalize downtown Point Pleasant while preserving its history.
Just how much money is available to individual business owners will be dependant on how many apply for the grant and if the projects fall under the grant’s guidelines.
Funds for the grant were made available through the Governor’s Office, Humphreys said.
Last week, Main Street Point Pleasant announced plans to move forward with phase two of the renovations to the historic A.F. Kisar Home on Third St. The organization received a $276,000 Department of Transportation Enhancement Grant for exterior work which could take nine months to complete.
