Winners named in Junior Market Goat show

POINT PLEASANT — On Tuesday morning, fairgoers gathered at the Mason County Fair’s Market Goat Show to see who would take home the title of grand and reserve champion.

After a tight competition between 75 goats, taking home the title of grand champion was Miranda Chapman, and taking home the title of reserve champion was Tanner Durst.

Awards were also given for in the area of showmanship in two different divisions; the senior division for competitors 13 years old and older and the junior division for competitors 12 years old and under. In the senior division, taking home first place was Kayla Thomas. Taking home second place was Emily Casto, and taking home third place was Brad Chattin. In the junior division, taking home first place was Kate Henderson and taking home second place was Masden Ball.

Throughout the show, it was also announced that a majority of the goats shown were born and raised in Mason County. When the judge was narrowing the blue ribbon goats down to the top 10, it was announced at the show that eight out of the top 10 goats were born and raised in Mason County.

As with other livestock shows, the winners also received their picture taken with Mason County Fair royalty, including Mason County Fair Queen Madison Crank, runner-up for fair queen and Miss Congeniality Kelsey Zuspan, Junior Miss 4-H Karlee Edmonds, Miss 4-H Amanda King, Young Miss 4-H Sarah Deem, Little Mister Nathan Wood, and Little Miss Jaidyn Patrick.

The second livestock show of the week, the Junior Market Goat show began at 11 a.m. and continued until around 1 p.m. The competing goats will be sold during the junior livestock sale at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.
