NEW HAVEN — A favorite summer pastime is spending unbearably hot days in the pool, and now families have an opportunity to make some new memories from the summer of 2012.
The New Haven pool has officially opened for the season and those looking to beat the heat this summer are surely ready to jump in. The pool is open from noon until 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $2 for students, $3 for adults, and children under three years old are free. Season passes are also available for $50 per person, and there price breaks for family purchases. For example, for two people the cost is $90.
Pool Manager Bernita Allen stated the pool recently reopened five years ago, after being closed for three years, and has been open every summer since. One reason the pool was able to open again this summer is due to a grant from Our Community’s Foundation. Allen stated every five years, it is required the inside of the pool be repainted, since there is no lining in the pool. The special paint that is required is very expensive, Allen said, and due to the grant they were able to purchase the paint and cover the entire pool surface. It was also reported that other donations were received from the Mason County Commission, Mountaineer Plant and Farmer’s Bank.
In addition to being open for the public, the pool can also be reserved for pool parties for $30 an hour. There are also swimming lessons offered, beginning on Monday, June 18, for $30 per person. Allen also stated there are no age limits for the swimming lessons. To pre-register for lessons or reserve the pool, call 304-882-3651.
There is also free swimming at the pool on the Fourth of July and on the last day of the season. Allen also said there is a concession stand available and no outside food or drinks are permitted.
