POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant Regatta is little more than a month away but some big entertainment is planned.

The Regatta Committee has announced it has secured country star Kip Moore to perform a free concert on Thursday, June 28. Moore’s current hit single entitled “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck” went to number one on the Billboard Country chart this week. The same song is the number five iTunes Country ringtone of the week.

“We are very excited to have Kip Moore as our headline act,” Jacob Hill of the Regatta Committee stated. “We have been negotiating for several months, and finally the appearance came together. This is the second year in a row we have had a super hot country act come to Point Pleasant. Last year we had Thompson Square who set an attendance record. With Kip’s song going number one it marks back to back years we have hosted a number one artist in Point Pleasant for free.”

Hill said the show is booked by Rick Modesitt and Associates Entertainment/RMA Presents.

RMA President Rick Modesitt added: “We have had a long history of bringing hot acts to Point Pleasant dating back to Tim McGraw on his way up. Jacob and the committee do a great job in vetting new acts towards picking the act that is taking off. They did it again this year with Kip Moore. It will be a fun night.”

Moore is said to have grown up daydreaming about life outside of the small town of Tifton, Ga. and has been continually inspired by Bruce Springsteen and Kris Kristofferson to paint vivid portraits with his lyrics.

“I am not drawn to the fairytale kind of love,” Moor said, who had a hand in writing every song on his debut album. “I am drawn to the real-life experiences between a woman and a man. I try to sing about the way it is, but yet at the same time, what you can hope for between a couple. I don’t intend to paint of picture of what it’s really not.”

Moore drove to Nashville, Tenn. on Jan. 1, 2004 in an old black Nissan truck that contained one bag and his guitar. He immersed himself in the songwriting community, observing songwriters’ rounds for two years and honing his craft before gaining the confidence to join in. After four years of performing locally, he caught the attention of Creative Artist Agency’s Marc Dennis, who called Universal Music Group Nashville’s Joe Fisher. Not only did Joe’s encounter lead to his record deal with MCA Nashville, but it also brought about his introduction to songwriter Brett James, who produced Kip’s debut album.
