MASON — The Mason County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is now mobile and ready to set up anywhere that it’s needed.
Tuesday afternoon, OES workers displayed the new mobile 911 center at the Mason Fire Department and allowed visitors to step inside and learn about its features.
Matt Gregg, EOC Technologist with the Mason OES, spoke with the Point Pleasant Register on the mobile center, saying this trailer is available to be set up 24 hours a day, seven days a week, should it be needed, adding that it can be set up and ready to go in a matter of minutes. Gregg noted they have worked with other emergency centers in Putnam County, as well as Meigs and Gallia Counties in Ohio, saying those centers are aware of this mobile trailer and they are able to set up in those counties as well, if needed.
Gregg said the trailer was customized for their use, featuring brand new and state of the art equipment. Gregg noted several of these items, including a live video feed to the 911 center in Point Pleasant, as well as access to the current calls dispatchers are currently working on at the Point Pleasant base.
The trailer also features a satellite and antennae which allow Internet access from any location, as well as the ability to receive 911 calls. In addition to the Internet connectivity, the mobile center also includes numerous radios which allow workers to contact with other bases statewide in both Ohio and West Virginia, as well as extra radios for other emergency workers if the mobile unit were deployed. Overall, the mobile unit features everything needed to function as a fully operational 911 center and can be deployed wherever needed.
The mobile center is also climate controlled, featuring air conditioning and heat. Gregg said the mobile center is housed at the Mason Fire Department.
