MASON COUNTY — Dogs have a way of saying what they feel, they just go about saying it in a different way than us, according to Mason County Animal Shelter Director Betty Neville.

Neville should know, she and the staff at the shelter spend countless hours caring for the county’s unwanted, whether it be dogs or cats.

This week, there are several dogs and cats available at the shelter for adoption. The fee to adopt a dog is $25 and the fee to adopt a cat is $20. Shelter hours are noon - 4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

For example, there’s a loving, full-blooded Shar Pei named Wrinkles available for adoption after recently being found wandering around in Clifton. There are often purebred dogs at the shelter, including now - there’s a Pomeranian, Blue Heeler and Rachael, the English Coonhound.

There are dogs of every shape and size, including Bailey the easy-going Labrador Retriever and Runner, a terrier who is sweet but shy. There’s younger dogs full of energy and love like Charlie and Pilgrim and then there’s Jane and Sky, mutts who are only a few feet tall in stature but have big hearts to give to their new owners.

Neville said the staff at the shelter has really been focused on working with dog rescue organizations to cut down on euthanasia but they still need the public’s help in getting loving dogs and cats adopted to good homes.

Call the shelter for more information at 304-675-6458.
