Mason County Fair kicks off Monday

MASON COUNTY — The 51st Annual Mason County Fair begins on Monday and excitement at the fair grounds was building this weekend in preparation.

The first day of the fair looks to be a busy one with the following events scheduled: 9 a.m. — Fair Opens - Judging some departments closed; 10:30 a.m. — Youth 4-H Horse Show; Noon — Balloon Sandwich; 4:45 p.m. — Jason Eades Memorial Scholarship Award; 5 p.m. — Market Hog Showmanship followed by Market Hog Show, Little Mister & Miss Mason County (Main Stage), Junior Market Hog Show; 7 p.m. — Riding Lawn Mower Demo Derby; 7:45 p.m. — Fair Dedication; 8 p.m. — Fair Queen Contest - Sponsored by Ohio Valley Bank (Main Stage), Annette Hanes Award and Amy Boggs Award, Brandy Barkey Community Service Award; 9:30 p.m. — Greasy Pig (After Hog Show); 11 p.m. — Gates Closed.

Tuesday (which is Senior Citizens Day where seniors over the age of 60 are admitted free) includes the following events: 9 a.m. — Fair Opens; 9:15 a.m. — Pet Parade (Show Ring); 11 a.m. — Jr. Dairy Goat Show - Market Goat Show; Noon — Egg Toss (Horse Ring); 1 p.m. — CEOS Demonstration (Jr. Building Stage); 3 p.m. — CEOS Demonstration (Jr. Building Stage); 4 p.m. — “Bo Rickard” Youth in Gospel Music (Main Stage); 5:30 p.m. — Harry Rhodes Gospel Sing (Main Stage); 5:45 p.m. — Pt. Pleasant High School Band (Inside Stage), 4-H Scholarship Awards - Ohio Valley Bank; 6 p.m. — Antique Tractor Pull; 8 p.m. — Market Lamb Show and Special Lamb Show; 9 p.m. — Mark Trammell Quartet - Gospel (Main Stage), Banana Eating Contest; 11 p.m. — Gates Closed.

Wednesday (which is a Discount Day where from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., admission is $5 per person which includes carnival rides) is filled with the following events: 9 a.m. — Fair Opens; 10 a.m. — Treasure Hunt; Noon — Hay Bale Toss; 1 p.m. — Pie Eating Contest; 3 p.m. — Open Sheep Show; 5:30 p.m. — Wahama High School Band (Inside Stage); 6 p.m. — Commercial Feeder Calf Show, Paul Doeffinger (Main Stage); 7 p.m. — 4-H Leader Memorial Award (Jr. Building), Demolition Derby; 7:30 p.m. — Bunk Hammer (Main Stage); 9 p.m. — The Dub V’S (Main Stage), Potato Sack Race; 11 p.m. — Gates Closed.

Thursday (which is a Discount Day where from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., admission is $5 per person which includes carnival rides) is filled with the following events: 9 a.m. — Fair Opens - Kid Kids Show; 9:50 a.m. — Youngun’s Calf Show; 10 a.m. — Open Beef Cattle Show, Junior Beef Show (Immediately Following); Noon — Paper Airplane Toss (Inside Stage); 2 p.m. — Seed Spitting (Outside Show Ring); 4 p.m. — Market Steer Show - Livestock Arena; 5 p.m. — John McCausland Award, Hannan High School Band Concert (Inside Stage); 6 p.m. — Pretty Baby Contest, Terry Lynn WiIIiamson Memorial Award, Junior and Open Dairy Show; 7 p.m. — Junior Horse Show - Trail Class, Farm Stock Tractor Pull and Diesel Truck; 8 p.m. — Toilet Paper Toss; 9 p.m. — Georgette Jones (Main Stage); 11 p.m. — Gates Closed.

Friday’s events are: 9 a.m. — Fair Opens - Master Market Showmanship; 12:30 p.m. — 4-H Exhibitor, Harold Ridenour Memorial and Donnie Hill Awards; 1 p.m. — Junior Livestock Sale - feeder calves, steers, lambs, goats, hogs Fair Scholarship - Peoples Bank; Mason County Born and Raised Market Animal Awards - Ohio Valley Bank; 5 p.m. — Point Pleasant Junior High School Band (Inside Stage); 7 p.m. — Super Stock Trucks, Tractors and Modified Stock Trucks; 9 p.m. — Pam Tillis (Main Stage), Chicken Catch (After Animal Show); 11 p.m. — Gates Closed.

Saturday wraps up the fair with the following events: 9 a.m. — Fair Opens - Open Mason County Youth Horse Fun Show, sponsored by City National Bank; 11 a.m. — Dash for Cash; 1 p.m. — Horseshoe Pitching; 2 p.m. — Pedal Tractor Pull; 3 p.m. — Auction for Kids Games; 4 p.m. — Old Timers Showmanship; 5 p.m. — Motocross Practice; 5:45 p.m. — Robert Lutton Award and Joey Arrington Award; 6 p.m. — Motorcycle Motocross, Open Horse Show; 8:45 p.m. — Sweepstakes Award; 9 p.m. — Jerrod Niemann (Main Stage).

Wow, lets hope it is much nicer than Gallia County Fair, which was an incredible waste of money. There wasn't much fair, more of a food vendor event!
