MASON — Let the choir sing.
In addition to local concerts and recitals, students in the Wahama High School chorus recently had an opportunity to perform in the Big Apple.
According to Director Rachel Reynolds, 50 of the 98 member chorus traveled by motor coach to New York City during their spring break and performed at St. Paul’s Cathedral, saying the students performed traditional repertoire.
In addition to performing, students also were able to attend a Broadway Musical Workshop with the cast of the musical “Wicked,” where they learned a song from the show titled “One Short Day.” In addition to the vocals, the Broadway cast also taught the students the accompanying choreography. Students also were able to sit down with the cast for a one on one question and answer session as well. Not only did the students get to work with the cast, they also were able to watch “Wicked” on Broadway, as well as the show “Mamma Mia.”
Also while traveling around the city, students were able to visit the 9/11 Tribute Center, the 9/11 Memorial, South Street Seaport, Chinatown, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, as well as other popular sights.
Reynolds and the students also acknowledged the Trinity United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant and the Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Letart for the use of their choir robes, noting that without the robes the chorus would not have been able to perform at the cathedral.
