Regatta Princess pageant tonight

POINT PLEASANT — The third annual Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta River Princess will be crowned tonight at 6 p.m. in the historic State Theater.

Eleven young ladies ages 10 to 13 will show their tomboy vs. princess sides in the “Both Worlds” (Hannah Montana-themed) pageant. The general public is invited to attend free of charge. A highlight will be the Hoedown Throwdown performed by the entire group to kick off an evening of fun.

This year’s princess will reign over the Regatta with the queen and her court.

Candidates for River Princess are Madison Jewell Barker, Brooke Bartram, Haleigh Morgan Bonecutter, Alara Breeze Craddock, Sydney Lauren Decker Crawford, Katherine Isabella Deem, Whitney Layton, Danielle Meadows, LeAnna Faye Nelson, Erykah Roach and Ariane Wells.

About the candidates:

Madison Barker is the daughter of Bill and Cyndi Barker of Point Pleasant. She is a seventh grader at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School.

Her hobbies and interests include fastpitch softball, tap, jazz and modern dance, basketball, scrapbooking, collecting snow globes, swimming, riding bikes and shopping. Her school and community activities include New Hope Baptist Church, Relay For Life, 4-H, West Virginia All-State Children’s Chorus, the state Social Studies Fair, Mason County Science Fair and All-County Choir.

Her future goals are to attend college, hopefully on a softball scholarship, and become an architect.

Brooke Bartram is the daughter of James Bartram and Kristy Pearce. She is a sixth grader at Roosevelt Elementary School.

Her hobbies and special interests include going to the mall, playing ball with her family and hanging out with her friends. Her school and community activities include the Mountaineer 4-H Club, Roosevelt Choir and March of Dimes.

Her future goals are to attend West Virginia University and become a registered nurse.

Haleigh Bonecutter is the daughter of Greg and Darlene Bonecutter of Point Pleasant. She is a sixth grader at Point Pleasant Intermediate School.

Her hobbies and special interests include hunting, camping, cheerleading, church and family activities. Her school and community activities include Kids of Character, fifth grade A/B honor roll, and cheerleading at PPIS.

Her future goals are to become a pediatrician and help find a cure for childhood leukemia.

Alara Craddock is the daughter of Richard and Patty Lambert of Leon. She is a sixth grader at Roosevelt Elementary.

Her hobbies and special interests include singing, church, drawing and swimming. She also enjoys reading, sports, riding four-wheelers, dancing and participating in pageants. Her school and community activities include softball, basketball and track, choir and youth groups.

Her future plans are to obtain a master’s degree in nursing.

Sydney Crawford is the daughter of Lori Loomis and Scott Crawford of Point Pleasant. She is a sixth grader at Point Pleasant Intermediate School.

Her hobbies and special interests include gymnastics, raising a feeder calf for the fair, dogs and a sugarglider. Her school and community activities include band (drums), choir, softball and 4-H (Kountry Kritters).

Her future plans are to become a wildlife photographer, care for abandoned animals and run a rescue mission.

Katherine Deem is the daughter of Deron and Missy Deem of Leon. She is a sixth grader at Roosevelt Elementary.

Her hobbies and special interests include 4-H (Kountry Kritters), softball, volunteering at the West Virginia State Farm Museum, planting flowers and traveling West Virginia. School and community activities include first place in the state Social Studies Fair, third place in the county Science Fair, All-County and All-State Chorus, a published author, honor roll and perfect attendance, and Sand Hill Road Church of Christ Youth Group.

Her future goals are to attend WVU and obtain a degree in orthopedic surgery.

Whitney Layton is the daughter of Don and Amy Layton of Point Pleasant. She is an eighth grader at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School.

Her hobbies and special interests include cheerleading, gymnastics, shopping and hanging out with friends. Her school and community activities include cheerleading, band and 4-H. She attends Soul Harvest Church and helps with Biddy League cheerleaders.

Her future goal is to become a special education teacher.

Danielle Meadows is the daughter of Danny and Nioka Meadows of Leon. She is a sixth grader at Roosevelt Elementary.

Her hobbies and special interests include four-wheeler riding, raising her goats and playing with her two Boxers, Brady and C.C. Her school and community activities include volunteering at her mother’s work and at Riverside Nursing Home, where her cousin works.

Her future goal is to become a lawyer or a veterinarian.

LeAnna Nelson is the daughter of Rocky Nelson, and Erma and Timothy Stone of New Haven. She is a fifth grader at New Haven Elementary School.

Her hobbies and special interests include singing, dancing, going to parks and playing with friends and family. She is active in her church, and her future goal is to sing and dance.

Erykah Roach is the daughter Jason Roach and Angela Roach of Point Pleasant. She is a fifth grader at Point Pleasant Intermediate School.

Her hobbies and special interests include softball, animal rescue, basketball, math, reading and miniature horses. Her school and community activities include Math Field Day school finalist, Social Studies Fair first place winner and honor roll.

Her future plans are to attend Harvard University and become a radiologist.

Ariane Wells is the daughter of Casey Lee of Point Pleasant. She is a sixth grader at Point Pleasant Intermediate School.

Her hobbies and special interests include watching American Idol, hanging out with friends and the Internet. Her school and community activities include her church youth group, Social Studies Fair, Science Fair, choir and cheerleading.

Her future goal is to become a nurse.
