BECKLEY, W.Va. — Caitlin Foster’s goal with just under 14-1/2 minutes left to play snapped a scoreless tie and lifted West Virginia University-Tech to a 1-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Thursday night, at the YMCA/Phil Cline Memorial Soccer Complex.

The Golden Bears improved to 7-4-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the River States Conference with the win.

Rio Grande, which suffered a third straight loss, dropped to 2-9-2 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.

WVU-Tech enjoyed a commanding 18-2 edge in total shots, including a 9-1 cushion in shots on goal.

Foster found the back of the net with 14:26 remaining in the contest thanks to a touch by teammate Alex Blumer during a wild scramble in front of the Rio goal.

Freshman Alli Jones (Chillicothe, OH), who got the start in goal for Rio after fellow frosh Andrea Vera (Quito, Ecuador) was lost to injury in pre-game warmups, recorded eight saves in a losing cause.

Martha Reyna had one save in net for the Golden Bears.

Rio Grande will look to snap its losing slide on Saturday when Carlow University visits Evan E. Davis Field for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
