Area CC teams compete at GAHS

CENTENARY, Ohio — Charleston Catholic came away with the girls championship, but nobody packed a better one-two punch than the host Blue Angels.

Gallia Academy juniors Mary Watts and Mesa Polcyn claimed the top two individual spots Tuesday night during girls varsity cross country race in the 2015 Skyline Bowling Invitational held on the campus of GAHS in Gallia County.

With 64 competitors and 10 schools represented in the girls event, it was Watts and Polcyn who blazed ahead of the field. Watts posted a winning mark of 20:38, while Polcyn had a runner-up time of 21:02. The third place effort came from Hannah Gacek of CCHS, approximately 25 seconds after Polcyn.

GAHS, however, finished fourth overall as a team with 87 points. CCHS won the eight-team girls event with 67 points, finishing just ahead of runner-up Fairland (74) and Meigs (77). Jackson (105), Huntington (113), Rock Hill (187) and Point Pleasant (193) rounded out the field.

Gracie Hoffman led the Lady Marauders with a fourth place effort of 21:53, followed by Lara Perrin (24:03) and Caitlyn Rest (24:22) with respective finishes of 15th and 17th. Taylor Swartz was also 20th overall with a mark of 24:34.

Sadie Fox (26:21) wrapped up the third place team tally by finished 32nd. Ariann Sizemore (27:27) and Madelyn Hill (29:49) also placed 36th and 49th overall for MHS.

Cassidy Starnes followed Watts and Polcyn for GAHS by placing 19th with a time of 24:30. Sabrina Manygoats (27:36) and Abby Cremeans (28:26) wrapped up the Blue Angels’ tally with respective finishes of 39th and 40th.

Caitlyn Caldwell (28:58) and Elizabeth Evans (30:05) were also 45th and 50th overall for Gallia Academy.

Allison Henderson paced PPHS by finishing 33rd with a mark of 26:29, followed by Karson Bonecutter (28:37) and Cierra Beatty (29:08) in the 42nd and 46th spots. Makinley Higginbotham (36:12) and Karissa Cochran (40:11) finished the Lady Knights’ tally with respective efforts of 58th and 63rd.

Kelsey Corbin was the lone SGHS participant, placing 16th overall with a time of 24:14.
