RACINE, Ohio — Just the bounce back win the Lady Tornadoes needed.

The Southern volleyball team, which suffered its first Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division loss of the season on Monday, got back in the win column on Tuesday — defeating gust Belpre in straight games.

Southern (7-2, 3-1 TVC Hocking) allowed just one service point in the opening game and rolled to a 25-12 victory, which ended with seven straight service points by senior Ali Deem.

The Purple and Gold never trailed in the second game and they cruised to a 25-9 triumph, which ended with four straight service points by Deem.

Belpre battled to an 8-7 lead in the third game, but 10 straight service points by SHS junior Kamryn Smith pushed the Lady Tornadoes to a 25-11 victory and a 3-0 win.

“After losing last night in the fashion that we did, it was tough to come out tonight and have that energy,” second year SHS head coach Chris Carroll said. “I told the girls ‘we have to get refocused and get back on track’. We’ll take the next few days to get ready for a tough week next week. We need to focus more on some of the little things we need to work on instead of just a win or a loss.”

Deem led the Lady Tornadoes service attack with 19 points, followed by Smith with 10 and Hannah Hill with eight. Marlee Maynard and Brandy Porter both marked four points, Brynn Harris added two, while Haley Hill, Talon Drummer and Cameryn Harmon each finished with one.

Katie Osburn led Belpre with 6 service points, followed by Alex Williams, Sydney Hall and Daisy Cowdery with one each. Hall led BHS at the net with five kills, followed by Cowdery with two. Lauryn Simmons and Trinidy King both marked one kill, while Osburn had a team-high four assists.

Southern — which also defeated Belpre in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday — will look to sweep BHS on October 6, when the Purple and Gold visit Washington County. The Lady Tornadoes return to action on Thursday at Miller.

Additional Southern statistics were not made available by presstime.
