POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — A rough outing for the home team.

The Ravenswood volleyball team defeated host Point Pleasant in consecutive games on Thursday night in Mason County. The Lady Knights (6-14) showed signs of life early, but the Red Devilettes went home with the win.

Point Pleasant kept up with the visitors early in Game 1. However, the Red Devilettes began to take control of the match. Ravenswood took the first set 25-14.

The Lady Knights continued to struggle in the second game. The home team allowed eight service points early in Game 2 and couldn’t get out of the hole. The Red Devilettes didn’t give up the lead in Game 2. Ravenswood took the second set 25-13.

Point Pleasant wasn’t ready to go home just yet. Senior Charli Leach gave the Lady Knights a 4-0 lead at the beginning of Game 3. Ravenswood recovered and tied the game at 4-all. Both teams traded the lead back and forth throughout the set. Gracie Cottrill helped give the Lady Knights the 10-8 lead midway through the set. The Red Devilettes adjusted and took the final set 25-14.

Leach led the Lady Knights with six service points, followed by Alexis Runion with three points and Cottrill with two points.

“We had a couple of girls out sick and this was their first game back,” Point Pleasant coach Marla Cottrill said. “We came out on fire. I thought we were going to do good. The girls wanted to do good, but they were like a deflated tire. They got up and moving, then, all of a sudden, they went down and they couldn’t get back up again. It was a tough loss.”

This was Point Pleasant’s third loss in four matches. The Lady Knights defeated Lincoln County on Tuesday, but lost to Winfield and Huntington on Wednesday night. The Lady Knights fell to Ravenswood 3-0 during their last meeting on Sept. 22.

Point Pleasant will next head up the road for a meeting with Wahama on Monday. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
