GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — You can’t win them all.
A 28-17 second half run allowed visiting Cross Lanes Christian to hand the Ohio Valley Christian boys basketball team its first loss of the 2015-16 season Monday night following a 48-42 non-conference decision in Gallia County.
After battling to a 12-all tie after eight minutes of play, the host Defenders (6-1) made a 13-8 run in the second canto to secure a 25-20 advantage at the break.
CLC, however, whittled the lead down to a possession after going on an 11-8 third quarter run, which gave OVCS a slim 33-31 edge headed into the finale. The guests closed regulation with a 17-9 spurt to wrap up the six-point outcome.
Elijah McDonald led the hosts with 19 points, followed by Marshall Hood with 13 points and Justin Beaver with seven markers. Dillon Ragan and Justin Sizemore rounded out the respective OVCS tally with two points and one point.
The Defenders, who are a perfect 5-0 in road contests, return to action Friday when they travel to Teays Valley Christian for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
