POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Two out of three weren’t bad.

The Point Pleasant wrestling team went 2-1 overall and had five grapplers go unbeaten Saturday during a quad match with Cabell Midland, Hurricane and John Marshall at PPHS in Mason County.

The Big Blacks posted a comfortable 54-18 victory over Hurricane, then squeaked past the Scarlet Knights for a 37-36 decision. John Marshall was the only team to knock off the hosts, doing so by a slim 39-35 margin.

Seniors Tannor Hill, Scotty Wilcox, Christopher Lush and Hunter White — as well as junior Grant Safford — all posted perfect 3-0 records in their respective divisions for PPHS. Lush (145), Safford (182) and Hill (220) each recorded two pinfall wins apiece, while Wilcox (120) and White (170) each scored a pinfall victory.

White also earned a pair of technical fall victories and Hill scored a major decision in his other win. Safford and Lush each had one win by decision, while Wilcox earned a pair of victories by forfeit.

George Smith (106) and Jacob Roub (138) each finished the day with identical 2-1 marks in their respective weight classes, while Luke Wilson (113), Jeffery Simpkins (126), James Patterson (195) and Brian Gillispie (285) scored a win apiece within their divisions.

Smith, Patterson and Gillispie each recorded a pinfall victory, while Roub scored a technical fall and a major decision in his two triumphs. Andrew Roach lost all three of his matches at 160 pounds.

Point Pleasant also suffered a 52-18 setback to Huntington Thursday night in a dual match at PPHS. Smith recorded the hosts’ lone pinfall victory at 106 pounds, while Lush (145) and White (170) each scored a decision in their matches with the Highlanders. Safford’s win at 182 pounds was by forfeit.
