Lady Raiders split with Warriors

CHESHIRE, Ohio — The River Valley High School softball squad split a non-league season-opening doubleheader on Saturday against the visiting Eastern Brown Warriors.

In a pair of slugfest final scores, the Lady Raiders won the first game 10-9 in nine innings.

In the nightcap, they lost 13-10.

River Valley senior Ashley Gilmore hit her first home run of the season, while also recording eight strikeouts in pitching the pair of games.

Isabella Mershon combined for five hits in the two tilts, while Reilly Barcus went 3-for-4 in game two.

The Raiders also collected a dozen stolen bases between the two bouts.

The Raiders traveled to Oak Hill on Monday for another non-league duel, and return to the road today at country rival Gallia Academy.
