HURRICANE, W.Va. — The Point Pleasant baseball team dropped its third straight decision Friday night following an 11-1 setback to host Hurricane in a non-conference matchup in Putnam County.

The visiting Big Blacks (5-4) claimed an early 1-0 advantage after Matt Richardson singled in Derek King in the top of the first, but the Redskins (7-2) retaliated with 11 unanswered runs over the next five-plus frames to wrap up the mercy-rule outcome.

HHS took a permanent lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, then scored three times in the second and four times in the fourth for a comfortable 9-1 edge through four complete. The hosts scored a run apiece in the fifth and sixth frames to complete the 10-run decision.

Hurricane outhits PPHS by an 11-3 overall margin and committed only one of the four errors in the contest. The Redskins stranded nine runners on base, while the Big Blacks left four on the bags.

Liam Bailey was the winning pitcher of record after allowing an earned run, three hits and a walk over six innings while striking out five.

Abe Stearns suffered the loss after surrendering nine runs (four earned), seven hits and three walks over 3.1 innings while fanning two.

Jordan Cunningham allowed an earned run, three hits, a walk and struck out one in 1.2 innings of relief, while Richardson gave up an unearned run, a hit and two walks in a third of an inning of work.

King, Richardson and Tristan Austin had the lone hits for Point Pleasant. King scored a run and Richardson earned the RBI.

Aaron Perry and Garrett Gress paced HHS with three hits apiece, followed by Branson Martin with two safeties. Perry, Gress and Martin also drove in two RBIs each, while Gress, Chandler Kelley, Noah Birthisel and Evan Dearing scored two runs apiece.

Hurricane claimed a season sweep after posting 7-5 decision on March 22 in Point Pleasant.
