Raiders win Meigs Invitational

ROCKSPRINGS, Ohio — The River Valley boys and Vinton County girls came away with top honors Wednesday night during the running of the 2016 Meigs Cross Country Invitational on the campus of Meigs High School.

The Raiders dominated the boys event, which featured seven different programs, four teams and 48 individual competitors. RVHS had all seven varsity runners finish in the top 15 en route to a winning team tally of 21 points.

The host Marauders — who had three top 15 efforts — were the overall runners-up with 51 points, while Vinton County (85) and Federal Hocking (87) rounded out the four-team standings. Southern, Belpre and Wellston also competed in the event, but did not have enough runners for a team tally.

SHS junior Conner Wolfe was the individual champion with a winning mark of 18:06.92. RVHS junior Nathaniel Abbott was the second place runner with a time of 18:47.71.

Chance Gillman followed Abbott for the Raiders with a third place effort of 18:54.11. Garrett Young (18:57.37) and Kyle Coen (19:23.30) were next with respective finishes of fifth and seventh, while Caleb McKnight (19:55.39) rounded out the RVHS scoring by placing 11th.

George Rickett (19:56.82) and Rory Twyman (20:06.48) also earned the 12th and 13th spots for the Raiders.

James Parsons paced MHS with a fourth place effort of 18:55.19, followed by Cole Betzing (19:23.99) in eighth and Dillon Mahr (20:34.96) in 15th. Landon Davis (20:57.94) and Andrew Monroe (21:42.52) rounded out the Marauder tally with respective placements of 16th and 26th.

Colton Heater (21:47.07) and Jake Roush (21:51.03) also finished 27th and 30th, respectively, for Meigs.

Larry Dunn followed Wolfe for the Tornadoes with a sixth place effort of 19:03.58. Tyler Pavich (21:26.39) and Lucas Hunter (21:26.71) also earned respective finishes of 19th and 20th for SHS.

There were six different programs, three teams and 42 competitors in the girls event. Vinton County posted a winning team score of 24, while Meigs (34) and River Valley (66) rounded out the three-team field.

Southern, Belpre and Federal Hocking also competed in the girls event, but did not have enough runners for a team total.

Rylee Fee of Vinton County was the individual champion with a time of 21:50.24. Teammate Lilly Chevalier was the overall runner-up with a mark of 22:09.33.

Caitlyn Rest led the Lady Marauders with a third place effort of 23:48.52, followed by Taylor Swartz (24:10.84) in fifth place and Madison Cremeans (24:25.19) in eighth.

Gracie Hoffman (24:37.90) and Marrissa Noble (25:06.47) completed the Meigs tally with respective finishes of 10th and 12th. Ariann Sizemore (27:48.66) and Carmen Doherty (28:05.70) also came away with finishes of 23rd and 25th.

Kenzie Baker paced the Lady Raiders with a ninth place effort of 24:25.77, followed by Leanne Hively (25:06.84) and Beth Gillman (25:48.12) with respective finishes of 13th and 15th.

Josie Jones (26:01.65) and Kaylee Gillman (26:28.08) completed the RVHS team tally with respective placements of 16th and 18th. Julia Nutter (28:29.87) and Sophie Branham (28:33.24) also earned finishes of 28th and 29th for Meigs.

Mallory Johnson led the Lady Tornadoes with a 21st place effort of 27:15.22 and Madison Lisle was 24th with a mark of 27:54.60.

Kathryn Matson (33:08.91) and Addie Matson (35:52.33) also placed 39th and 41st, respectively, for Southern.
