The Point Pleasant Big Blacks are one win away from returning to Wheeling Island for a championship, this time competing in Class AAA. It’s another huge Friday night for the Big Blacks as they take on the Wheeling Park Patriots in the Class AAA high school football semifinals. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Ohio Valley Bank Track and Field at PPJ/SHS and the winner moves on to the championship to face the victor of Saturday’s Capital vs. Cabell Midland match-up. The Big Blacks silenced critics when bringing down the Huntington Highlanders last week with a score of 49-0, while Wheeling Park pounded South Charleston 41-0. Point fans packed the stadium last week, getting noisy and rowdy and making their presence known to the Highlanders and most importantly, their Big Blacks. Fans are asked to once again come out in full force to support the team, with several seniors also playing their last game at their home stadium. Businesses can get in on the action by placing supportive messages on electronic signs and hanging handmade signs and balloons in school colors in Point Pleasant the day of the game. Pictured are scenes from last Friday’s game against the Highlanders with Point’s John Sommer (12) celebrating a touchdown and Cody Mitchell (14) making a break for the end zone.
