GALLIPOLIS — Enjoy Christmas favorites and holiday standards at the Voices of Christmas concert Saturday at the historic Ariel-Ann Carson Dater Performing Arts Centre.
The 7 p.m. performance will be featuring the Ariel Children’s Chorus, the Madog Welsh Youth Choir and the French Colony Chorus. The annual concert features vocal groups from the area in an evening of holiday songs.
The Ariel Children’s Chorus, now in its second year, is under the direction of Judith Cavendish.
The children will be performing a variety of Christmas songs, as well as the novelty tune “Text Me Merry Christmas.” Children ages 6-14 who like to sing are invited to join the group from 4-5 p.m. Thursdays to learn music and performance skills.
Local audiences are used to seeing Seth Argabright on stage and he will be performing “O Holy Night,” but he is also leading the Madog Welsh Youth Choir. The group’s mission is to keep the tradition of Welsh singing alive in southern Ohio.
Under the direction of Greg Miller, the group is made up of middle and high school students from Jackson and Meigs counties and they will be singing the lyrics in Welsh.
The French Colony Chorus of Sweet Adeline’s International was founded in 2005 by Susan Willis, who directs the lively vocal ensemble made of women from around the area who enjoy singing. Their purpose is to entertain the community and they do so in numerous performances and competitions around the area. They invite any woman interested in singing to join them on Tuesday evenings at St. Louis Catholic Church.
Tickets for Voices of Christmas are $10 and are available online at arieltheatre.org or at the box office located at 428 Second Ave. in downtown Gallipolis.
