New coaches, staff hired by Mason Co. BOE

POINT PLEASANT — During Tuesday’s meeting, the Mason County Board of Education office approved a large list of extra curricular personnel, including coaches for the three area high schools that will be effective for the 2011-2012 school year.

This included the following, effective June 1: Daniel Tench, Coach, Junior High Football, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School; Frankie Hudnall, Assistant Coach, Varsity Football, Hannan Jr/Sr High School; Michael Wallace, Assistant Coach, Varsity Football, Hannan Jr/Sr High School; Mike Lucas, Coach, Varsity Golf, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School; Charles Blessing, Coach, Varsity Golf, Wahama Jr/Sr High School; and Matthew VanMeter, Head Coach, Varsity Volleyball, Wahama Jr/Sr High School.

• The Board approved the employment of William Rice, Assistant Coach, Boys Junior High Baseball, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective Feb. 10; Kent Price, Head Coach, Girls Varsity Softball, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective Feb. 10; Chelsea Schauer, Athletic Assistant, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective Feb. 10 (unpaid volunteer position); and Bridget Swisher-Bush, Athletic Assistant, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, effective Feb. 10 (unpaid volunteer position).

• The Board approved the employment of Joanna Spangler, Tutor, Central Office Itinerant, on an as-needed basis, effective Feb. 10. County is the funding source.

• The Board approved resignations from the following: Rachel Reynolds, Mason County All-County Chorus, effective Jan. 20; Korie Burns, Title I Tutor/Interventionalist, Beale Elementary School, effective Jan. 18; and Matthew VanMeter, Assistant Coach, Girls Junior High Softball, Wahama Jr/Sr High School.

Professional personnel:

• The Board approved the following list for employment: Andrew M. Burns, Teacher, 7-12 Math, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, effective for the 2011-2012 school year, County is the funding source; Jeffrey Vogt, Title I Tutor/Interventionlist, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, effective Feb. 10, Title I is the funding source; and Elizabeth Cobb, Title I Tutor/Interventionalist, Leon Elementary School, effective Feb. 10, Title I is the funding source.

• The Board approved the following list of Substitute Teachers, for the 2010-2011 school year, effective Feb. 10, County is the funding source: Lindsay R. McMillian, Heather J. Sturgeon, Matthew E. Thomas, and William H. Wallace.

• The Board approved the following transfers: Charles M. Towner, Counselor, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School to Coordinator of Attendance, Central Office Itinerant, for the 2010-2011 school year, effective Feb. 10, County is the funding source; Jessy R. Painter, Counselor, Wahama Jr/Sr High School to Counselor, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, for the 2011-2012 school year, effective July 1, County is the funding source; and David A. Rankin, Alternative School Teacher, English to Teacher, 7-12 English/Language Arts, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, for the 2011-2012 school year, County is the funding source.

• The Board approved the following Central Office Coordinator positions for realignment: Patricia Park, Title I/Title III, 240 days; Kim Burris, Title I/Title VI, 240 days; Sherry Pullin, Title I/Title II, 240 days; Rebecca Hatfield, Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, 240 days; Jack Cullen, Secondary Curriculum Coordinator, 240 days; and Jerry Warren, Special Education Coordinator, 240 days.

• The Board approved the accept the resignation of Curtis Kimble, Teacher, Physical Education and Health, Hannan Jr/Sr High School and Ashton Elementary School, due to retirement effective Jan. 14.

• The Board rescinded the resignation of Mabel Denny, Teacher, Beale Elementary School, due to retirement.

• The Board approved to post the following position: Principal, Mason County Career Center, for the 2010-2011 school year, County is the funding source.

Service personnel:

• The Board approved the employment of the following Substitute Bus Operators, pending successful completion of the bus operator class and full certification/licensure as a bus operator: Joanna Dangerfield, Jacob Hanson, Mark Jordan, Richard Neal, Charles Perry, Jr., Trevor Peters, Joshua Thompson, and Sandi Wears.

Other approvals:

• The Board approved the request from Pearl Betts to release her child, Isabella Perry from attending school in Mason County to attend school in Jackson County for the 2010-2011 school year.

• The Board approved the contract between the Mason County Board of Education and Wheeling Jesuit University for the purpose of placing pre-service candidates, residency candidates and/or student teachers, to complete clinical and field experiences in Mason County Schools.

• The Board approved the contact between the Mason County Board of Education and Solution Tree to provide five contracted service days (March 3, 4, 18 and April 20 and 21) as part of professional development follow-up for county improvement. The total cost will be $32,500. Title I is the funding source.

• The Board approved Precision Components and Milton Family Dollar Store as Work-Based Learning businesses, effective immediately through Sept. 30, 2011.

• The Board approved Angela Lloyd, Rebecca Porter, and Eric Porter as approved drivers for the 2010-2011 school year.

• The Board approved a list of volunteers from Beale Elementary School and New Haven Elementary School for the 2010-2011 school year.

All members of the Board were present during the Agenda #31 meeting. The next meeting dates are as follows: Feb. 17, 4 p.m., Policy/Regular Business Meeting, Mason County Career Center; Feb. 21, 4 p.m., Special Student Explusion/Employee Transfer Hearings, Mason County Career Center; and Feb. 22, 6 p.m., Regular Business Meeting, Mason County Career Center.
