MASON — Wahama High School ninth grader, Peyton Humphreys, recently won first place honors in the state’s Patriot’s Pen competition.

With her winning essay, Humphreys was awarded both a savings bond and trophy. Humphreys’ statewide win also advances her to the national Patriot’s Pen contest.

The Patriot’s Pen competition is sponsored by the VFW and is open to students in grades 6-8, who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories.
