Those in attendance were Ruth Caplinger, Greg Martin, and Howard O’Cull.
Caplinger, the Maintenance Director for Mason County Schools, gave a report on the West Virginia Fire Marshall’s Report. Curriculum Director Martin spoke to Board members about the 2011-2012 school calendar, and West Virginia School Boards Association Executive Director O’Cull talked about school board training.
In business, a list of professional, service and extra curricular personnel approvals were made.
Professional personnel:
• The Board approved Stephen Kingery, Principal, Mason County Career Center, 240 days, effective for the 2011-2012 school year. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
• The Board approved family medical leave for Erin Tolliver, Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, from April 11 through May 27.
• The Board approved the transfer of Debra Hussell, RTI Specialist, Point Pleasant Intermediate School to Teacher, Preschool, Central Office Itinerant, for the 2011-2012 school year. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
• The Board approved the transfer of Crystal Love, Teacher, Grade 4, Point Pleasant Intermediate School to Teacher, Preschool, Central Office Itinerant, for the 2011-2012 school year. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
• The Board approved the transfer of Marshall Barnhouse, .5 Teacher, Hannan Jr/Sr High School to Teacher, Music/Theatre Arts, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, for the 2011-2012 school year. County is the funding source.
• The Board approved the transfer of Shayla Blackshire, Teacher, Kindergarten, New Haven Elementary to Teacher, Grade 4, New Haven Elementary, for the 2011-2012 school year. County is the funding source.
• The Board rescinded the placement of Sylvia Hendrickson on the Mason County Transfer List for the 2011-2012 school year.
• The Board approved to post the following position: .5 Teacher, GED Options, Central Office Itinerant, effective immediately. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
Service personnel:
• The Board approved the employment of Jean Gill, Secretary II, 210 days, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, effective for the 2011-2012 school year. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
• The Board approved the employment of Barbara Varian, Aide, Special Education, Central Office Itinerant, effective for the 2011-2012 school year. Special Education is the funding source.
• The Board approved the transfer of Diana Roach, .5 Secretary II, Wahama Jr/Sr High School to Secretary II, 210 days, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, effective for the 2011-2012 school year. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
• The Board approved the transfer of Judy Ball, Executive Secretary, Central Office to Secretary II, 210 days, Ashton Elementary, effective for the 2011-2012 school year. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
• The Board approved the transfer of Mark Matheny, Head Custodian, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School to General Maintenance, Maintenance Department, effective April 7. Jobs Dollars is the funding source.
• The Board approved to post the following position: Custodian III, 200 days, night shift, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective immediately.
• The Board approved to delete the following position: .5 Secretary II, Wahama Jr/Sr High School, effective July 1. *Note: Tom Nunnery and Teresa Warner voted no to this approval. Motion carried 3-2.
• The Board approved to delete the following position: Head Custodian, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective April 7, due to lack of need.
Extra Curricular personnel:
• The Board approve the employment of Christopher Lyons, WESTEST Assessment Support, effective April 7 on an as-needed basis, for the 2010-2011 school year. County is the funding source.
• The Board approved Ronald Wickline, II, Athletic Assistant, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective April 7 for the 2010-2011 school year. This is an un-paid volunteer position.
• The Board approved the employment of Ronald Wickline, II, Assistant Coach, Girls Jr. High Softball, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective April 7 for the 2010-2011 school year.
• The Board approved the employment of Ronald Wickline, II, Head Coach, Jr. High Soccer, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School effective April 7 for the 2011-2012 school year.
• The Board approved the employment of Julie Bibbee, Coach, Jr. High Volleyball, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective for the 2011-2012 school year.
Other approvals:
• The Board approved the out-of-state trip for Brenda Adkins, Teacher, Gifted Students (10) and approved chaperons to travel to Kissimmee, Fla. from April 29 to May 5 to participate in the National Academic Games. Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Wahama Jr/Sr High School and Point Pleasant Intermediate School’s Levy money will be the funding source.
• The Board approved the out-of-state trip for the Point Pleasant Intermediate School’s sixth grade students, along with Glenn Long, Annette Cook, Linda Cook and approved volunteers to travel to Hershey and Gettysburg, Pa. from May 24 to May 26. Funding source will be the school’s general funds.
• The Board approved volunteers from Leon Elementary, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, Point Pleasant Primary School, and Wahama Jr/Sr High School, for the remainder of the 2010-2011 school year.
• The Board approved the sale of surplus equipment/used textbooks for an auction to be held April 30 at the Mason County Career Center.
• The Board approved Calendar ‘A’ as the 2011-2012 school year calendar.
The next Board meeting will be held April 19 at 4 p.m. at the Mason County Career Center, and April 21, 4 p.m., Mason County Career Center.
