ASHTON - The search for Bill Mayes, 75, of Ashton, has come to a tragic end as of early Friday afternoon.

Search crews and volunteers began their sweep of 18 Mile Creek on Friday, and around 11 a.m., a body was found.

Family members sadly confirmed it was that Bill Mayes.

Investigators have yet to release any details of the case. Mayes was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

The search spanned 10 days since his disappearance early Tuesday, April 12. The main focus was always the small creek, but due to high waters, the search was sometimes halted.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department and Valley Volunteer Fire Department assisted on the case.
