This marks the 10th consecutive year that the Tu-Endie-Wei Garden Club and the City of Point Pleasant have hosted the contest.
Judging for the May Yard of the Month is currently underway. The contest continue through September with each city ward being judged during the last week of each month. According to Leota Sang of the Tu-Endie-Wei Garden Club, the “Business In Bloom” judging will follow with the Yard of the Month judging schedule as well.
The following are the guidelines for the Yard of the Month contest:
• Artificial plants or flowers will disqualify yard.
• All yards will be judged without prejudice in every Ward within the city limits of Point Pleasant.
• Only yards visible from the street will be judged.
• Overall beauty of appearance, design, neatness and blooming flowers will be considered by the judges.
• No Garden Club member or members of the City Council will be considered.
• Judging will be done the last week in April, May, June, July, August, and weather permitting, September.
The following are the guidelines for the Business in Bloom contest:
• Artificial plants or flowers will disqualify area.
• All businesses will be judged without prejudice within the city limits of Point Pleasant.
• Only areas visible from the street will be judged.
• Overall beauty of appearance, design, neatness and/or blooming flowers will be considered by the judges.
• No business owned by a Garden Club member or members of City Council will be considered.
• Judging will be done the last week of May, June, July, August and weather permitting, September.
Contest officials also suggest those with limited space make use of pots for flowers and shrubs and/or use hanging baskets or window boxes.
