The event, which is open to the community, will take place Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Leon Elementary School playground. Activities will run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. All homecoming proceeds will go towards the purchase of items for the school’s sports teams. Proceeds also will help finance the school’s yearbooks and the annual Summer Reading Program.
During the homecoming celebration, the community can meet the Leon Lion Football Team and Cheerleaders. In addition, the Leon Choir will provide entertainment. According to event organizers, others interested in singing or playing at the event are welcome to do so.
Craft space also will be available during the event. Crafters from churches will be given free table space. Students are especially encouraged to attend the event as Leon’s homecoming court will be voted on as well. The homecoming court will consist of the sixth grade homecoming queen and king and the sixth grade homecoming princess and prince. Students in preschool through fifth grade also will be voted onto the court.
Other activities on tap include drawings, prize awards, various games and a cake walk.
In the event of inclement weather, homecoming will be moved to the school’s gymnasium. For more information or to reserve a table space, contact Angel McCoy, committee president, at 304-458-1902 or Miss Gail at 304-458-1710 (school) or 304-458-1907 (home).
