School Board approves personnel, other issues

POINT PLEASANT — During Tuesday’s Mason County Board of Education regular business meeting held at the Mason County Career Center, Board members approved agenda items.

Board members in attendance were Michael Cottrill, Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Dale Shobe, Teresa Warner and Superintendent Suzanne Dickens.

A list of professional, service and extra curricular personnel approvals were made in business.

Professional Personnel:

• The Board approved Family Medical Leave for Leslie Dvosis, Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective August 23 through approximate release date from her physician of October 10.

• The Board approved the deletion of Pre-School Special Needs, Ashton Elementary and Pre-School, Central Office Itinerant positions due to reconfiguration.

• The Board approved to post the following positions: Teacher, grade 2, New Haven Elementary; Teacher, grade 2, Point Pleasant Primary School; Teacher, kindergarten, Point Pleasant Primary School. County is the funding source.

• The Board approved the transfer of Margaret Kaylor, Teacher, English 9-12, Mason County Career Center to Teacher, Theater, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, for the 2012/2013 school year. County will be the funding source.

• The Board approved employment for the following: Matthew Poland, Band/Music/Choir Teacher, 220 days, Hannan Jr/Sr High/ Ashton Elementary School; Rebecca Cline Roll, Teacher, grade 5, New Haven Elementary; Robert Sharp, Teacher, LD/BD/MI, New Haven Elementary School; Dru Ross, PE/Health Teacher, Wahama Jr/Sr. High School; Heather Sturgeon Thompson, grade one Teacher, Ashton Elementary; Amy Grady, grade 4 teacher, Leon Elementary. County will be the funding source.

Service Personnel:

• The Board approved to post the following position: Secretary II, 205 days, Point Pleasant Primary School, for the 2011/2012 school year. County is the funding source.

• The Board approved the employment of Tammy Westfall, Special Education Aide, Central Office Itinerant, effective September 15. Special Education will be the funding source. Ms. Westfall is being employed from the transfer and subsequent assignment list.

• The Board approved the employment of Lisa Hill, Special Education Aide, Central Office Itinerant, effective September 15. Special Education will be the funding source. Ms. Hill is being employed from the Reduction in Force List.

Extra Curricular Personnel:

• The Board approved the employment of Shawn Sergent and Judy Browning as Mentor Teachers, Central Office Itinerant, for the 2011/2012 school year. County will be the funding source.

• The Board approved the employment of: Ella Schultz, Parent Coordinator, Beale Elementary; Lisa Wickline, Parent Coordinator, Point Pleasant Primary School; Stephanie Durnell, Title I Interventionist, Central Office Itinerant, on an as-needed basis. Title I will be the funding source.

• The Board approved the employment of Sandi Morgan, ESL Teacher, Central Office Itinerant, on an as-needed basis for the 2011/2012 school year. Job Dollars will be the funding source.

• The Board approved the employment of: Rick Stafford, Jr High Wrestling Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High; Troy Stewart, Jr High Girls Head Softball Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High; Donald VanMeter II, Jr High Boys Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High; Michael Porter, Jr High Assistant Wrestling Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High. County will be the funding source.

Other Approvals:

• The Board approved the out-of-state trip for Hannan Jr/Sr High School AAA Incentive Students (9) and approved volunteers to travel to Kings Island in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 1, 2012. The school’s General Fund will be the funding source.

• The Board approved the contracts between the Mason County Board of Education and the Milestone Physical Therapy for Occupational and Physical Therapy Services for the 2011/2012 school year. Special Education will be the funding source.

• The Board approved volunteers for Beale Elementary, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Mason County Career Center, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Roosevelt Elementary and Wahama Jr/Sr High for the 2011/2012 school year.

• The Board approved the purchase of a 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD, 4WD Truck from Matheny Motors, based on state bid pricing. County Transportation Monies will be the funding source.

The next Board meeting will be held Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. in the Mason County Career Center and Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Mason County Career
