100 contestants to participate in Mothman Festival Pageant

POINT PLEASANT — The record has been broken once again, as 100 contestants will compete in the Fourth Annual Miss Mothman Festival Pageant, set for Friday and Saturday at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park.

According to Delyssa Huffman, pageant director, the pageant committee is excited to host 100 girls from around the county, surrounding areas and even several states. On Friday, the pageantry begins at 5 p.m. as 44 contestants take to the riverfront park stage. Titles awarded include: Teen Miss Mothman Festival Princess, Teen Miss Mothman Festival Queen, Miss Mothman Festival Princess, Miss Mothman Festival Queen, Ms. Mothman Festival Queen, and Mrs. Mothman Festival Queen. All will compete in Moth Wear, Evening Wear and On-Stage Interview.

Entertainment for Friday’s pageant will be provided by Chase Likens, and Brittany Sayre, the 2010 Miss Mothman Festival Queen. Other 2010 royalty include: Morgan Watterson of Apple Grove, Teen Miss Mothman Festival Princess; Destiney Jordan of Point Pleasant, Teen Miss Mothman Festival Queen; Lindsey Deem of Mason, Miss Mothman Festival Princess; Marlee Sexton of Parkersburg, Ms. Mothman Festival Queen; and Danielle Dowler of Parkersburg, Mrs. Mothman Festival Queen.

The six winners crowned Friday will receive grand prize packages consisting of many awards sponsored by local businesses and individuals. All contestants will receive a participation trophy, and each age division will award Best Moth Wear, Best Evening Wear, Best Interview, Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic. A first and second runner-up also will be awarded in each group. In addition to those awards, a Crowd Favorite Award will be presented to the one contestant who receives the most votes. Voting is $1 per vote and the donations will help the Mothman Museum.

Concessions and vendors also will join this year’s pageant under the pavilion where those who attend can shop around and help support the Hannan Junior High Cheerleaders, who are raising money for new uniforms. The vendors also have donated items to the Queen’s basket, and several raffles will take place throughout the pageant.

Mothman Pageant fun will continue on Saturday as a total of 56 little girls from ages 2-12 will have their chance at capturing the titles of Tiny Miss Mothman Festival Queen, Little Miss Mothman Festival Queen, and Junior Miss Mothman Festival Queen. Saturday’s pageant begins at 11 a.m. at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park.

Every single contestant in Saturday’s pageant will be crowned a Miss Mothman Festival Princess. Each contest also will receive their own tiara and sash to wear around to the festival.

The children’s pageant consists of Casual Wear and On-Stage Interview. Awards will be given to the Prettiest Eyes, Prettiest Hair, Prettiest Smile, Best Dressed, Best Personality, and Miss Photogenic in each age division Runners-up also will be announced in each group.
