Patrick Ray Hammack, 48, of Bruceton Mills, died Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown. The son of Betty Gibbeaut Hammack of Leon and the late Darald R. Hammack, he was born November 29, 1963, in Princeton.
Patrick was a member of the Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Mon Valley Basketball Association, Potomac Valley Basketball Association, MACBOA (Mid-Atlantic Basketball Association), and Sigma Nu Fraternity. He worked with at-risk youth for 30 years, was associated with REM (a mentoring program) for 12 years, and most recently worked as an administrator and counselor with the Mountaineer Challenge Academy at Camp Dawson.
Patrick graduated from Fairmont State University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in History & Education. Most recently, he was studying Counseling and Rehabilitation at WVU and was one semester from graduating.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tina K. Virts Hammack; a son, Christopher; two daughters, Tara and Paige Hammack, at home in Bruceton Mills; a sister, Debbie Barcus, of Gallipolis, Ohio; a brother, John Hammack, of Lavalette; and an uncle, Sid Gibbeaut.
Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012, with Pastor Jason Sheffstall of the Stonebridge Baptist Church officiating. Burial with graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, at the Kirkland Cemetery in Point Pleasant.
