POINT PLEASANT — A Point Pleasant man accused of robbing the Apple Grove Post Office last month has turned himself in.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Department reports Shane Daniel Neal, 31, turned himself in at the sheriff’s department around 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Neal is currently housed at the Western Regional Jail and could appear before a Mason County Magistrate this afternoon.

In addition to facing a second degree robbery charge, the sheriff’s department says Neal is facing warrants for failure to pay for gasoline and drive revoked for DUI.

The state robbery charge could be dropped in favor of a federal robbery charge due to the crime taking place at a United States Post Office. Whether or not Neal will face a federal charge rests in the hands of the U.S. Attorney General’s Office at this time.

Neal is alleged to have entered the post office wearing a mask and, without a weapon, proceeded to commit the robbery. He then allegedly fled in a white, Pontiac Grand Am which was later recovered in the Camp Conley area north of Point Pleasant by West Virginia State Police.
