GLENWOOD — After going missing for nearly a day, two brothers from Glenwood were found unharmed near their home early Tuesday afternoon.

Daniel Tucker, 15 and Jeremiah Austin, 9 went missing from their backyard around 6 p.m. on Monday evening - the boys were reported missing by their mother. By 8 p.m. that same night, a massive search by what would involve many law enforcement agencies was underway in the Glenwood area.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Department was the lead investigative agency on the case and were joined in the search by the West Virginia State Police (which included local troopers and a state police helicopter), personnel from the FBI, the West Virginia Office of Emergency Services and several firefighters from a number of local departments.

The search took on even more of a sense of urgency when it was reported one of the boys has a medical condition related to seizures and was without his medication.

Law enforcement received a break in the case on Tuesday when a person called in a tip, saying she knew where the boys were, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Department. Law enforcement met with the woman who took them to a home on Guyan Creek Rd., a few ridges over from where the boys live on Old River Rd. The boys had apparently spent the night in the woods and then took refuge at a neighbor’s home. They were found around 12:40 pm., nearly 18 hours after they were last seen.

A spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said the boys were found unharmed but were wet and cold from spending the night in the woods. The spokesperson also said the boys decided to runaway from their home Monday night due to “family issues” and were placed in the custody of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Tuesday afternoon.
