NELSONVILLE, Ohio — The Meigs baseball team is on its third winning streak of four or more games this season after defeating TVC Ohio foe Nelsonville-York 10-4 Thursday night.
Meigs (14-3, 4-2 TVC Ohio)manufactured two runs in the top of the second inning to take the early lead. After adding two more runs in the top of the fourth the marauders broke the game open in the top of the fifth with five runs on five hits highlighted by a RBI triple by Charles Barrett.
NYHS took advantage of two past balls in the fifth to score its first run of the game. Meigs manufactured a run in the sixth to expand its lead to 10-1. The Buckeyes struck for three runs on four hits in the sixth inning to cut the lead 10-4. NYHS failed to score in the seventh and the Marauders complete the sweep that was started on April 2nd when Meigs won 9-3 in Rocksprings.
Justin Myers earned the victory after giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits and a walk. Myers struck out nine batters in seven innings of work.
Nelsonville-York’s Cox was credited with the loss after giving up nine runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
Treay McKinney, Zach Sayre, and Justin Myers led Meigs with two hits apiece, followed by Charles Barrett, Taylor Gilkey, and Matt Casci with one hit apiece. Myers, Barrett, and Ty Phelps each scored two runs in the game.
Dean led the Buckeyes with two hits on the night.
The Marauders return to action Monday when they host Athens at 5 p.m. Meigs will be looking to avenge its 9-7 loss to the Bulldogs on April 5th.
