ALBANY, Ohio — The Meigs softball team secured at least share of third place in the final league standings Wednesday night during a 3-1 victory over host Alexander in a Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division matchup in Athens County.

Both the Lady Marauders (13-9, 5-4 TVC Ohio) and Lady Spartans (11-11, 4-5) entered the contest tied for third in the standings, with Wellston and Athens (8-1 TVC Ohio) both sitting ahead of the clubs in the overall standings.

Meigs never trailed in the contest, although both teams plated one run after an inning of play. Emalee Glass doubled in Alyssa Cremeans for a 1-0 edge, but an error allowed Bartlett to score for a tie game through one full frame.

Allyson Davis doubled home Tanisha McKinney in the second for a 2-1 edge, then an error in the seventh allowed Davis to score an insurance run — wrapping up the 3-1 outcome and a season sweep for Meigs. MHS outhit the hosts by a 6-3 overall margin and both teams had two errors apiece in the game.

Lisa Marie Wise picked up the winning decision after allowing zero earned runs, three hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out nine. Scott suffered the setback after surrendering two earned runs, six hits and four walks over seven frames while fanning three.

Glass led the Lady Marauders with two hits, followed by Davis, McKinney, Tanisha McKinney and Haley English with one safety apiece. Bartlett, Koker and Smith each had a hit for the hosts.

Both teams were also taking part in a Strike Out Ovarian Cancer contest Wednesday night. Both teams, through pledges and donations, raised close to $2,400 combined for the cause.
