City of Point Pleasant
Over the weekend, crews with the City of Point Pleasant Street Department closed a portion of Main Street due to an unstable building in the 300-block of Main Street. Mayor Brian Billings said bricks began falling from the building over the weekend which facilitated the closing of a portion of the street should the building collapse. By Tuesday afternoon, Billings said the city had opened up the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street to accommodate local businesses and residents.
Also on Tuesday afternoon, Billings, as well as City Inspector Jeremy Bryant were in talks with the owner of the building to possibly tear it down. Until then, the immediate area near the building is off limits.
Mason County Sheriff’s Department
The Mason County Sheriff’s Department reports the following arrests: Joshua Darst, 31, Leon, arrested on May 27 by Powell, fleeing in vehicle, obstruction. John L. Patterson, 34, arrested on May 28 by Terry, domestic assault, domestic battery.
