POINT PLEASANT — School’s out and vacationing students may be looking for special activities and ideas, and they need look no further than the Mason County Library.

The Kick-off Party for the Summer Readers’ Program will be from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at the Mason County Public Library. The kick-off party will feature a couple bounce houses, face painting, freshly-popped popcorn and more. The summer-long program, Dream Big: READ, begins the following Monday.

In addition to the beginning of the summer readers’ program, the library also received several new books for children in the following genres:

Easy readers: Three Pete the Cat books by Eric Litwin, I Love My White Shoes, Rocking in My School Shoes and His Four Groovy Buttons; Zero the Hero by Joan Holub and Tom Lichtenheld; Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero by Anne Cottringer; Weird but True Space Facts by Carmen Bredeson; Where Do Rainbows Go? by Nancy C. Youngblood; and Alphabet Everywhere, photographed by Elliott Kaufman.

Non-fiction for young readers: 50 Amazing Things Kids Need to know about Science by Penny Johnson; 50 Amazing Things Kids Need to Know about Math by Anne Rooney; Weird but True! Stupid Criminals and First Big Book of Why, both published by National Geographic Kids; 50 Burning Questions: A Sizzling History of Fire, 50 Poisonous Questions: A Book with Bite, and 50 Underwear Questions: A Bare-All History, all by Tanya Lloyd Kyi; How to Do Homework Without Throwing Up by Trevor Romain; and 3-D Space by Carole Stott.

Biographies: Jim Henson: The Guy Who Played with Puppets by Kathleen Krull; Women Explorers by Julie Cummins; and Amelia Lost: The Life and Disappearance of Amelia Earhart by Candace Fleming.

Poetry for Kids: A Meal of the Stars: Poems Up and Down by Dana Jensen; Maybe I’ll Sleep in the Bathtub Tonight and Other Funny Bedtime Poems by Debbie Levy; and Out of This World: Poems and Facts about Space by Amy E. Sklansky.
