Floyd and Mercedes (Burkle) Sayre of Point Pleasant recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner party given by their daughters, Christine (Rick) Vaglienti of Morgantown, and Connie (Joe) Huston of Charleston. The couple was married on August 25, 1962, in Salina, Kansas.

Out-of-town guests were Mercedes’ brother, Arnold (Trudy) Burkle from Wichita, Kansas; her sister, Barbara (Bob) Eskridge from Mascoutah, Ill.; Floyd’s cousins, Shirley (Harry) Krichbaum of Canton, Ohio, Harold Gene (Betty) Parsons of Evans, Sharon Fox of Cottageville, Denzil (Mary) Sayre of Kenna, and Scotty Hill of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Rachel, Richard and Julia Vaglienti from Morgantown, and step-grandson, Jess Huston of St. Albans. Many of the couple’s friends in the area were also in attendance.

Their daughters, Christine and Connie presented the couple with a travel gift certificate. Floyd and Mercedes used the travel certificate for the Holland America 13-day Alaskan tour of Dawson and Denali. At the completion of their Alaskan tour, they flew to Seattle, Wash. and rented a car and drove back across Route 90, driving through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Iowa.
