Shoulder work to be completed in Mason
MASON — At the most recent meeting of the Mason Town Council, council members discussed the finishing of shoulder work of Route 62 through Mason.
Mayor Mindy Kearns stated there was some work on the shoulder of the road, but one particular remained unfinished, which extends from Bob’s Market to Yonker Lane. Kearns said the work to finish the shoulder should take place following the paving work in Point Pleasant.
Council members also discussed the upcoming Fall Harvest Festival, which Kearns stated would be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 13, at the Mason Park. Kearns also said the festival will feature several games and activities including a bungee jump activity. There will also be food vendors and a band playing from 4-6 p.m. Councilman James Pauley made a motion to set the budget for the Fall Harvest Festival at $2,500, with a second from Councilman Nick Northup. Motion carried. It was also stated that any donations will be taken off the $2,500 budget.
In other council news, a motion was also made by Councilman Marty Yeager to accept the Police Standards Operating Procedures. As previously stated, Mayor Kearns stated the book of procedures is an outline of how the police department handles certain situations, and a discussion on this matter was tabled at an earlier meeting to allow council members ample time to review the policies. Councilman Northup seconded the motion to approve. Motion carried.
Councilman Pauley also made a motion to extend Misty Brewer’s time on payroll to an as needed basis with a second from Councilman Yeager. Motion carried.
Also making personal appearances at the meeting were Isaiah Pauley, Larry Daniel and Donna Vickers. Daniel announced the next Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Oct. 2, in the town’s community room.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved with a motion from Councilman Pauley and a second from Councilman Northup. Several bills were also presented for payment, with a motion to accept from Councilman Marty Yeager and a second from Councilman Northup. Both motions carried.
In addition to Mayor Kearns, council members present included James Pauley, Nick Northup, Marty Yeager and Recorder Dean Russell. Absent were Michelle Pearson and Sarah Stover.
The Town of Mason Council will meet again 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, in the town hall.
