POINT PLEASANT — Sometimes life is more fun when it’s experienced in a pack - just ask members of Cub Scout Pack #258 in Point Pleasant.
Cub Scouts from the Tigers Den of Pack #258 met last night at Trinity United Methodist Church to learn about scouting and to live up to the Cub Scout Motto “Do Your Best.” They also had an opportunity to tell the world, well, at least the readers of the Point Pleasant Register, what they love about being a Cub Scout.
For Gavin Leach, a six year old who attends Roosevelt Elementary, the answer was easy - crafts. Leach said he enjoyed making things and oh, he also was a fan of the upcoming Pinewood Derby.
Jordan Elliot, a seven year old who attends Point Pleasant Primary School, said he loved coloring Christmas pictures while in Cub Scouts.
Brylan Williamson, a seven year old who attends Point Pleasant Primary School, said his favorite thing about Cub Scouts was pretty easy - Pinewood Derby.
In fact, Pinewood Derby seems to be the equivalent of Christmas Day in the scouting world.
Jacob Simon, a six year old who attends Point Pleasant Primary School, said he was excited about the derby, which is on Feb. 23 at the Trinity U.M. Church Christian Community Center. Simon said his dad was already helping him with his derby car and it was going to have “horsepower” for sure.
“All the fun crafts,” is why Robbie Hall, a seven year old who attends Point Pleasant Primary School, loves scouting.
Isaac Hall, 7 and Kolton Weaver, 6, both attend Point Pleasant Primary School and both were quick to say “Pinewood Derby” was also their favorite thing about scouting. Agreeing with Hall and Weaver about the Pinewood Derby was Michael Henry, a seven year old who attends Beale Elementary, who was also attending his first Cub Scout meeting.
Finally, Gunner Wamsley, a seven year old who attends Point Pleasant Primary School, said his favorite thing about Cub Scouts was coloring, but not just any kind of coloring, learning how to do leaf etchings.
Though the answers to why they love being a Cub Scout varied, the fact that members of the Tigers Den all had a reason for loving scouting helps bond them to each other and, therefore, their pack.
Cub Scout Pack #258 is for first through fifth graders in the area.
