POINT PLEASANT — Good nutritional meals are essential for growing children and Magic Years Daycare Center has recently become involved with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to help meet those needs.
According to Assistant Director Melanie Potts, Magic Years adopted this program to help the daycare center provide nutritious meals to their children which will in turn help the children meet the daily recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables and other necessary food groups.
“There will be several children who will benefit from it,” Potts said about the program.
Potts stated this program is the same program used in Mason County Schools which allows students of low-income families who qualify for free or reduced price lunch to receive such benefits.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Child Nutrition Programs are available to all children. In accordance with Federal law and USDA policy, Magic Years is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. To file a complaint of discrimination, write USDA Director Office of Civil Rights, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, DC, 20250-9410, or call toll free at 866-632-9992.
Eligibility for free and reduced price meal reimbursement is based on income scales effective through June 30, 2010. Meals will be provided at no separate charge.
Other recent updates at Magic Years include an expansion project which will add over 3,500 square feet to the current facilities, including a new kitchen, cafeteria, indoor activity area, new restrooms, private classrooms by age, two separate playgrounds, a speech and computer lab and a security system. A groundbreaking ceremony for this project was held in Oct. 2012. Owner Robin Blas said the project is expected to be complete near the end of March.
Located at 201 High Street in Point Pleasant, Magic Years Daycare first opened its doors on Sept. 6, 1986, and provides care for children from six weeks to 12 years of age.
