POINT PLEASANT — At the most recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education, board members approved the following agenda and personnel items.

Approved Minutes, Agenda 12-25, February 12, 2013. Approved the out of state travel for Shawn Hawkins, Point Pleasant Intermediate School Principal and Charla Martin, PPIS/Alternate Education School Counselor, to travel to Columbus, Ohio from March 5, 2013, returning March 6, 2013, to attend a Professional Staff Development. Step 7 will be the funding source. Approved Shawn Hawkins, James Higginbotham, Eric Porter, Rebecca Porter, Ellen Potter, Timothy Potter, Alicia Russell, and Adam Watson, as approved drivers for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year. Their driving records have been checked by the WV Department of Motor Vehicles.

Approved volunteers for Beale Elementary, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Leon Elementary, New Haven Elementary, and Roosevelt Elementary, for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year. Approved the Collaborative Agreement between the Mason County Board of Education and WV Division of Rehabilitation beginning 2012-13 school year and remaining in effect subject to annual review and renewal by mutual agreement, or until the agreement is cancelled by the Agencies in accordance with the terms set forth.

Approved policy 3431-Personal Leave. Approved policy 4431-Personal Leave. Approved the resignation of Judith Markham, Substitute Teacher, effective February 6, 2013. Approved intermittent Family Medical Leave for Sherry Williamson, Counselor, New Haven Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Approved Family Medical Leave for Cheryl Oldaker, Cook, New Haven Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Approved to post the position of Extra Duty Bus Aide, Central Office Itinerant, for the 2012-13 school year. Special Education will be the funding source.

Accepted the resignation of Carol Hughart, Site Based Manager, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, effective June 30, 2013. Accepted the resignation of William Rice, Assistant Jr High Baseball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective February 8, 2013. Approved the employment of Angela Roach, Interventionist, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, on an as needed basis, job#001-051-I, effective for the 2012-13 school year. Step VII will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Blair Bumgarner, Amy Grady, William Hayman, Denver Kerr, Erin Northup, and Beverly Pickens, as Title I Interventionist, Leon Elementary School, on an as needed basis, job 001-039-I, effective for the 2012-13 school year. Title I will be the funding source.

Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements, check numbers 82941 through 83048, totaling $506,316.60.

In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Greg Fowler, Paul Sayre, and Dale Shobe.

The Mason County Board of Education will meet again at 6 p.m. on Feb. 26, at the Mason County Career Center.
