POINT PLEASANT —Though the weather outside is nothing like summer, summer will indeed arrive and with it this year’s major acts for the Point Pleasant Regatta.

The regatta committee recently announced two of Nashville’s rising stars which will be providing free music and entertainment to the crowds.

In keeping with the recent tradition of hiring new up and coming national recording artists, the Point Pleasant Regatta is pleased to announce that rising country star Charlie Worsham will be the featured entertainer on Saturday, June 29 at the annual regatta, according to Chairman Jacob Hill.

“We heard Charlie was a great entertainer with a wide range of musical talent,” Hill said. “I watched his videos on his web site (www.charlieworsham.com) and on YouTube and it was obvious this guy is a great talent with unique musical interests. He even has a country version of the big hit by PSY ‘Gangnam Style.’ With his new single climbing the charts and his entertaining style, he should be a big hit at the Regatta this year.”

Worsham, a native of Jackson, Miss., is signed to Warner Brothers Records. During 2011 he toured with Taylor Swift. His first single is titled “Could It Be” and is currently moving up the music charts and was recently at number 41. According to the regatta committee, his talents have long been recognized and in 1999 the Mississippi State Senate recognized him for his outstanding accomplishments.

“This year we are really excited to have added a second day of new Nashville talent to the festival,” Hill said.

Chris Janson, who recently released his first single “Better I Don’t” has been secured to perform on Thursday, June 27.

“We are excited that we have two national level touring acts,” Hill said. “It is even more exciting that our festival can be a part of the launching pad for not only acts like Chris Janson and Charlie Worsham, but recent acts like Kip Moore, Thompson Square, David Nail, and even dating back many years ago having Tim McGraw. We are happy to host the new rising stars.”

Janson is with Bigger Picture Group label along with label mates Zac Brown and Craig Campbell. His first single was recently at number 51 on the charts. He has toured with the likes of Lynyrd Skynrd, Hank Williams, Jr., Sugarland, Jamey Johnson, James Otto, and Shooter Jennings.

Rick Modesitt, president of RMA Presents, who has booked talent for the Regatta for many years added: “The Regatta Committee has been dedicated in trying to find fresh, hot rising talent every year, which not only is on the radio, but puts on a great show. This year appears to be another one of those years where they will bring top notch talent to the festival. We are proud to work with the festival. They do such a great job for the community. We hope that the community and surrounding areas come out and support the 2013 festival and enjoy the free music.”

In the coming months, the Point Pleasant Register will release more entertainment information, including additional performers and attractions, for this year’s Point Pleasant Regatta.
