MASON— The ballots are now finalized for the upcoming municipal elections in the towns of Mason, Leon and Hartford.

Tuesday was the last day for write-in candidates to file. In Mason, incumbent Marty Yeager and Ralph Ross are on the ballot for council seats, while Jerry Tucker is seeking election as mayor.

Councilwoman Sarah Stover was the only person to file as a write-in candidate. According to Mayor Mindy Kearns, who decided not to seek re-election, no one has filed for recorder, and two open council seats remain. Due to this, council members will be required to appoint people to fill the vacant positions when the new administration officially takes office.

“Since there will be three on council, that will constitute a quorum. The (council) members can appoint two council members and a recorder,” Kearns said.

Leon will have no write-in candidates in their municipal election, however they do have several candidates on the ballot. According to Mayor Bruce Riffle, incumbents Crystal Cash, Terri Rymer and Greg Barker are seeking re-election for their council seats. Councilman Adam Null, who was appointed to fill a vacant council position earlier this year, also will be seeking election for council. Renae Riffle, who currently serves as the town’s events coordinator, is seeking election as recorder.

Riffle said he will seek election as mayor after being appointed to fill the current term following the former mayor’s resignation.

Election plans are ready in Hartford as well. For council, incumbents Susan Kensler and Tom Anderson Jr. are seeking to return to their seas, with DeeDee Dudding, Lois Dudding and Tim Green filing for one of the five open seats as well. In addition, Paula Cunningham, Charles Connley, Shirley Kauff, Leann Zerkle and Angel Cundiss filed as write-in candidates for council.

Three people are on the ballot for mayor, including Mayor Sam Anderson, who is seeking re-election, Robert Crouse and Daniel Rardin. Tom Anderson, Sr. also is running for mayor as a write-in candidate. Current recorder Cheryl Oldaker also is seeking re-election and will face Kenny Greene.

The towns’ municipal elections will be June 9.
