NEW HAVEN —With the weather getting warmer by the minute thoughts of summer days lounging by the pool quickly come to mind.

And the New Haven pool is ready to get a jump start on the fun of summer.

The pool will open Monday, May 25 from noon-6 p.m. There will be no admission charge for opening day, and season passes will be available for purchase.

According to Bernita Allen, pool manager, the pool is opening earlier this year.

“It’s always been a tradition that the pool open memorial day. We couldn’t open last year because of the weather and the mechanics part of the pool,” Allen said. “We tried to get back to tradition (this year).”

According to Allen, the pool has undergone several changes to prepare for the summer season, including the installation of new fencing around the pool and a privacy fence on one side of the pool. The bathrooms and concession area have been updated as well.

Allen encouraged the community to come to the pool’s opening day in order to see all of the pool’s changes, which she described as making the pool easier to maintain.

“(The updates) will make (the pool) so much easier to operate. Maintenance will be easier on all of us, and hopefully there will be a good turnout all summer,” she said, adding that the pool serves as one of the community’s major activities during the summer months.

According to Allen, the pool will be open most evenings until school is out, and will open full-time Sunday, June 7. Swimming lessons also will be offered at the pool in June.

Lifeguards this year are Keith Pearson, supervisor; Mary Kebler; Chelsea Flower; Lindsey Deem; Elijah Honaker; Josh Allen; Colin Pierce; Sasha Frye; Katie Hendricks; and Randi Roush.

Once school is out pool hours will be noon-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The pool also will be available to rent for parties.
