Ursula Eileen Strauss, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, in Jackson, Ohio, where she was given exceptionally loving care at the Four Winds Community.

She was born April 19, 1917, in Pomeroy, Ohio.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Strauss Sr., and family members, Stephen and Verna Archer, and Gertrude Archer Croy.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Eimer of Circleville, Ohio; son, Dr. E. John (Anita) Strauss Jr. of Gallipolis, Ohio; grandson, Brent (Barbara) Eimer of Fort Wayne, Ind.; granddaughter, Alisa (Mark) Litz of Circleville; step-granddaughters, Lori (Craig) Hardwick of Chicago, Ill., and Susan (Mark) Vrbas of Louisville; seven great-grandchildren and five great step-grandchildren; two half-sisters; two half-brothers; and a special niece, Carol (Ed) Kennedy of Pomeroy.

Eileen was a graduate of Pomeroy High School and lived in Pomeroy all of her life until 1979, when she moved to Gallia County.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and also attended New Life Lutheran Church. Eileen will be warmly remembered by her friends and family for her love of animals, her appreciation of beautiful flowers, and her wonderful talent of baking, sharing pies, cakes and cookies with neighbors, friends, and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donations to Four Winds Community in Jackson, Holzer Hospice in Gallipolis, or a charity of your choosing.

Friends may call at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Middleport, Ohio, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2009. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Beech Grove Cemetery in Pomeroy, with Pastor Scott Baker of New Life Lutheran Church officiating and family friend, Pastor John Jackson, assisting.
