According to Homer Preece, director of the Marshall Mid-Ohio Valley Center, several students have already registered for the fall semester. Students can register for classes 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the center.
Registration will last until the week of Aug. 24, and classes will begin on Aug. 24 as well. Preece said that it is not to late for students who want to attend school to register. During the registration process students work with an academic advisor to help guide them as well as receive information on financial aid.
“Now is the time (to register) if you are thinking about coming to school. We’d love to spend time with (potential students) and work with them to discover their options,” Preece said.
In addition to registration, MOVC held several freshman orientation days for the first time this year. Preece described the orientations as going very well, and said that he was pleased with the attendance. During orientation, incoming freshman were able to register for classes, receive their photo IDs as well as learn about resident services. They also were issued their user name and passwords. Campus parking and security was discussed as well.
“(Orientation) gave students an opportunity to meet any other incoming freshman,” Preece said. “Our new nursing students also got to meet the nursing director, so that was nice.”
According to Preece, MOVC is currently in the process of upgrading their interactive television system as well as converting five classrooms to have high definition capabilities. In addition, the center is working to update security and is installing card swipes on the backdoors. This along with the construction of a new medical stimulation lab, is being funded through federal grant money that the center received earlier this year.
