POINT PLEASANT — The time has come once more for children to explore their writing abilities and learn more about Point Pleasant’s history.

The Battle Days essay contest is in its third year running. It is open to all Mason County children in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

The topic for this year is “Choose a historical person from Point Pleasant’s past, and tell why they were so important.” There is no requirement on the length of the essay, and the only request is that the topic is focused upon.

Monetary gifts will be awarded to the top three essays. First place will receive $50, second place, $30 and third place, $20. Entries need to be received by Friday, Sept. 25, to be entered into the contest.

All contact information, including name, needs to accompany the entry. Those selected as winners will be notified.

Essay entries are to be sent to the Battle Days Essay Contest, 3216 Howard Avenue Point Pleasant, WV 25550.
