Born November 30, 1918, in Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia he was the son of the late Lawrence Thorne and Stella Valeda Blain Mohr. He was retired after 35 years as U.S. Postmaster at the Gallipolis Ferry Post Office, a farmer and businessman. He was a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Ohio Farm Bureau, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a member of the Post #23 American Legion at Point Pleasant and Post #4464, Veterans of Foreign Wars at Gallipolis.
Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Van Gilder Mohr, whom he married February 15, 1947, in Gallipolis, daughter, Marie (Gary) Difilippantonio, Newtown, Conn., son, Mark (Vickie) Mohr, Vinton, grandchildren, Beth (Tim) Brabham, Bidwell, Chris Mohr, Vinton, Angelo Gianni, Ashville, N.C., and Adele Unger, Newtown, Conn., great-grandchildren, Abigail Brabham, Brandon Unger, Alexa Blain Unger, Marcella Gianni and Malena Gianni. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Young and his brother, Donald Mohr.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 14, 2009, in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire. Officiating will be Rev. John Holland. There are no calling hours. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail Team. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made in Blain’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
