Mason to sell former city building

MASON — The former city building in the Town of Mason will soon be on the market.

During Thursday’s council meeting, it was reported that three bids were received for tearing down the old city building. Bids were from Jeffers Excavating, $6,500; Pullins Excavating, $8,850; and E & R Excavating, $12,600.

A motion was made by Councilman Marty Yeager to rescind the motion that was made on Nov. 5 to tear down the building. Councilwoman Amber White seconded the motion, which was then approved by council. It was later agreed to sell the old city building instead.

In other business:

• It was reported that bids were received for paving the city building’s parking lot. Bids were from Supreme Asphalt for $11,000; Rick Eplion Paving, Inc. for $23,500; and Myers Paving for $10,000. Council agreed to accept the bid from Myers Paving.

• It was reported that street lights and Christmas lights are being repaired.

• Amanda Sutphin of Triad Engineering, Inc. appeared before council with documents regarding the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Manhole Improvements Project.

• The second reading on the Customer Preauthorized Automatic Transfer of Funds Ordinance was read.

• It was reported that the town’s Christmas Parade will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Following the parade, Santa Claus will be at the town hall to take pictures with children.

• Council approved invoice No. 4 from Michael Baker for Horizon Site Work, Inc. on the Streetscape Phase II project.

• Council met in executive session from 7:50-8:25 p.m. to discuss personnel matters.

The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3.
