POINT PLEASANT — The candidate filing period for the upcoming Mason County Primary Election is now over.
Saturday marked the last day to declare candidacy for the election, which is slated to take place on May 11. Several offices will be on the ballot this election term.
Miles Epling, Republican, is seeking re-election to his Mason County Commission seat. He will be running unopposed in the primary. Mason County Clerk Diana Cromley, Democrat, also is seeking re-election and will run unopposed. Circuit Clerk Bill Withers, Democrat, is seeking re-election as well. Republican candidate, Myra Sargent Doss, also is running for Circuit Clerk.
Mason County Board of Education members, Teresa Warner and Dale Shobe, will seek re-election against a field of candidates. Those also running for a board of education seat include, Devin Slone, Cloyd H. Smith, Jr., Randy Searls, Donna Sturgeon Duke, James F. Bowles, Brian Reed, Michael Roach and Yvonne McCormick.
Those running for the Second Congressional District Committee and the Fourth Senatorial District Committee include, Greg Barker, Democrat; Rice Tarbett, Democrat; and Randolph (Randy) Filkins, Republican. Tarbet also is running for the 14th Delegate District Committee, while Barker is running for the 13th Delegate District Committee.
Several residents are running for the County Executive Committee. Those running include, Ernie Compson, Democrat; Janet Hogg, Democrat; Anges Roush, Democrat; Sarah Stover, Republican; Roger G. Winebrenner, Democrat; James H. Elias, Democrat; Sarah K. Elias, Democrat; Greg Barker, Democrat; Mona Lisa Legg, Democrat; Dianne Buck, Republican; Floyd R. Sayre, Democrat; Randy Thorne, Republican; Joe M. Supple, Republican; Bonnie J. Fruth, Democrat; Merlie Hart, Republican; Ronald R. Kapp, Democrat; Rice Tarbett, Democrat; Judy Grumbling, Republican; Donna Kay-Akers, Republican; Dwayne Russel, Democrat; Jim Butler, Republican; Irene Gardner, Democrat; Randall G. Mayes, Democrat and Freeda B. Mayes, Democrat.
At the state level, West Virginia State Sen. Mike Hall, R-Putnam Co., is up for re-election.
In addition, 13th District Delegates Dale Martin, D-Putnam Co., and Brady Paxton, D-Putnam Co., are up for re-election. No other Democrat candidates have filed to run against Martin and Paxton.
Del. Brian R. Scott, R-Putnam Co., will run for the 13th District Delegate seat. In the 14th District, Incumbent Patti Eagloski Schoen, R-Putnam Co., will be up against Darrel Black, Debra Girimont and Brian Savilla.
