Donald Sheldon Haynes, 89, Letart, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010.

He was born on July 4, 1921 in Clifton; a son of the late Issac Haynes and Laura Smith Haynes. Donald was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. He also was a member of the Vernon United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways. Donald was a cattle farmer and enjoyed bottle collecting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Rickard Haynes; and siblings, Bernadine (Jack) Mallette, Horace Haynes, and Pauline (Mack) Stewart.

He is survived by his son, Barry S. Haynes; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 19, at the Anderson Funeral Home in New Haven with Pastor Brian Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Hoffman Cemetery, where military funeral honors will be presented by the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service on Friday at the funeral home.
